X FACTOR sensation Jahmene Douglas has already won the votes of JLS, Nicole Scherzinger and Yoko Ono – in words of praise, at least.
Now the 21-year-old’s former colleagues at Asda will give his prospects a big push this weekend after the supermarket launched a Vote Jahmene T-shirt.
The tops will sell for £5 each, with all profits being donated to domestic violence charity Women’s Aid – a cause close to Jahmene’s heart. His store in Haydon, where he is on a career break from his job as process worker, will take part, along with branches in Swindon West and Melksham.
Jahmene is feeling the pressure this week as he gears up to give his best performance yet.
With singer-songwriter Lucy Spraggan having already dropped out of the ITV1 show, he described himself as “exhausted” going into this weekend’s live round.
He said: “I’m going to step it up. I don’t know if I will though, I’m going to be a nervous wreck.”
The former New College student also revealed his song will be by a “well-known woman”.
Jahmene has cruised through the live rounds since winning a standing ovation from the judges with his first live audition performing Etta James’ hit At Last.
He told fans on Facebook this week that he was “shocked” to be repeatedly voted through.
Jahmene said: “Thank you all for keeping me in to watch me learn and grow on this journey.
“I hope I can eventually sing to my best because so far I don’t feel like I have.
“X Factor is a blessing, but it’s draining.”
Jahmene has previously revealed how he and his mother Mandy suffered at the hands of his abusive father Eustace Douglas, a convicted rapist. He told how “every day I was living in fear” as he endured violent beatings. Jahmene and Mandy have had no contact with him since.
Since shooting to fame, the churchgoing singer has vowed to campaign against domestic violence, with speculation that he will front Women’s Aid. His mother already works with the charity and he has performed at events to raise funds.
