A REVIEW of charges for waste collection and disposal services provided to various non-domestic premises has been launched by Wiltshire Council.

Under updated Government legislation, councils must review their charges to certain types of organisations to ensure taxpayers are not subsidising their waste collection and disposal costs.

At Cabinet on Tuesday, November 6, councillors agreed to a review of non-domestic charges, which will start in the 2013/14 financial year.

Toby Sturgis, cabinet member for waste, said: “The new Government guidance makes it clear householders should not be meeting the costs of the disposal of waste from a range of non-domestic organisations. In response to this guidance we are reviewing our waste collection and disposal practices and ensuring our policies are updated.”
