THE light was shining in Stratton on Thursday evening as residents turned out for the annual Christmas Extravaganza.

Stratton St Margaret Parish Council hosted the festive lights switch-on at the Stratton Leisure Centre and families were getting in the festive spirit.

The event started at 3pm with a fun fair and an outdoor barbecue and among the attractions children got the chance to visit Father Christmas, who was on hand with his reindeer.

Visitors to the grotto had the opportunity to feed the reindeer and to take photographs.

Suzie Chard, who is performing as the Genie in this year’s Aladdin at the Wyvern, was on hand to flick the switch on the festive lights on at 6.30pm.

Other entertainment included children’s entertainer Colonel Custard, letter writing to Father Christmas, colouring competitions and a bouncy castle.

There was plenty for the adults as well with a craft fair, and free mulled wine and mince pies to warm them up on the cold evening.

The chairwoman of the community centre committee, councillor Tara Cook, said: “We’ve been really excited about this year’s Christmas Extravaganza.

“There has been lots to do for everyone and plenty to keep the children entertained.”
