WHILE most teenagers can only dream of performing at the O2 Arena, Charlie-Anne Bradfield will be doing just that when she takes to the stage next month.

The Dorcan Academy pupil, who turns 14 this month, has made it through to the grand final showcase of Open Mic UK Live and Unsigned after performing in the area final in Reading on Sunday.

The singer songwriter, of Nythe, will be following in the footsteps of world-famous superstars when she takes to the stage at the London venue on January 19.

“Most teenagers wouldn’t have the chance to say they have played at the O2,” she said. “I hope I can win. I am keeping an open mind. I would love to win but if I don’t I will still just be really happy that I had the chance to take part.”

Charlie-Anne performed her own song, Unnamed, on Sunday followed by her own version of Crazy by Gnarls Barkley.

“I didn’t expect to get through at all. I thought I had lost my chance because there were only five places and 24 contestants. They called all the other names first, then mine was the fifth to be called,” she said.

“I couldn’t believe it, I was so close to tears.”

Charlie-Anne will perform at the O2 for three minutes and 30 seconds but she has not yet chosen which song to perform.

Open Mic UK searches for the UK’s best singers, singer/songwriters, rappers and vocalists of all genres who can perform either covers or original songs.

The top prize is £10,000 cash, as well as a UK festival tour.

“I want to keep on writing songs and I want people to listen to my music. I want as much feedback as possible so I can keep on improving and see where it takes me,” she said.

“I have got so many good friends and family that are always supporting me. They tell me if they don’t like it. I think of it as constructive criticism.

“If I get ideas I write them down and try and link them in.”

Charlie-Anne will also be performing three songs at the Christmas lights switch-on in Wharf Green tomorrow.

She previously performed at the Wharf Green Olympic Opening Ceremony, Swindon Pride and The Big Arts Day earlier this year.
