IT seems as though the whole of Swindon is backing Jahmene Douglas to win the X Factor this weekend.

From shop owners to the town’s MPs, everyone is sending messages of support to the Swindon singer who is set to battle it out against James Arthur and Christopher Maloney for the X Factor crown.

Jahmene has become a last-minute favourite with the bookies to walk away with the recording contract after William Hill reported that late money has been placed on the 22-year-old, who has been trimmed from 6/5 to 5/4 with James Arthur out to 11/8 and Christopher Maloney now 7/2.

Both Jahmene and James will get to perform with their mentor Nicole Scherzinger on Saturday night.

And Pussycat Doll Nicole, 34, who joined Jahmene in Swindon on Wednesday and performed with him in church, said she is finding the prospect a little daunting.

She said: “Having worked with the boys a little bit this week, it’s quite intimidating.

“I thought they were absolutely amazing – I’ve been doing this for quite some time now, but they were just brilliant, they make it look so easy.

"But it’s a real honour to be able to sing with them.

“I want to thank Swindon for all of their support and to go out and vote for my little lamb chop.”

Jahmene’s personality has won him a lot of fans throughout the show and both of Swindon’s MPs have said that he has become an asset for the town.

Robert Buckland, MP for South Swindon, said: “In a few months, Jahmene Douglas has achieved the national recognition that many of us in Swindon who knew about his musical talent felt he merited.

“The fact that he has highlighted serious issues such as domestic violence has shown great courage.

“He is one of the X Factor’s greatest stars and deserves to win.”

Justin Tomlinson, MP for North Swindon, said: “Jahmene has made Swindon exceptionally proud.

“He has proved to be a real inspiration and we are all rooting for him – go Jahmene.”

Swindon Women’s Aid, who received a £10,000 cheque from Asda on Jahmene’s behalf on Wednesday, are returning the favour to support him this weekend.

Director Olwen Kelly said: “We appreciate the help and support of Jahmene in bringing forward the issues of domestic violence.

“Given he is from Swindon and the experiences that he and his family have suffered we are grateful that he has chosen Women’s Aid as a worthy cause to back.

“The whole team at Women’s Aid will be supporting him this weekend.”

The town’s sports clubs have also been cheering on Jahmene and hope that his success could be infectious.

Paolo Di Canio, manager of Swindon Town Football Club, said: “Jahmene is fantastic, I hope he can bring some success to us.

“He can bring us some energy, he is very good.

“I want Jahmene to put out all his energy and his voice and do the right job.”

Stewart Fleming, Asda’s fresh manager and Jahmene’s former boss at Asda’s Haydon Swindon store, said that his colleagues have been watching the show every weekend.

He said: “Having Jahmene back in the store this week was fantastic and showed him just how many fans he has behind him.

“Jahmene has come so far, and yet he’s the same fun, caring person he was when he worked here, so we would love nothing more than to see him crowned the X Factor winner this weekend.”

Businesses in the town have also been giving their backing to the singer, and Jahmene made a secret visit to the Brunel Centre just a couple of weeks ago, where there is a big poster of him.

Kerry Hunter, marketing supervisor at the Brunel Centre, said: “Good luck from everyone at The Brunel Swindon, we are very proud of you for getting through to the final, well deserved.”

Lyn Chapman, centre manager at Basepoint Swindon, said: “I’ve been voting for you every week and will be again this week. You are Jah-mazing, well done Jahmene."

Dom Threlfall, of Pebley Beach Suzuki and Hyundai, said: “Sing for Swindon, Jahmene.

“The whole of Pebley Beach will be voting for you, good luck.”

Eleanor Collins, at Vox PR, said: “At last the whole country’s seeing the star that Swindon’s been proud of since you blasted us away in Swindon Talent. Good luck Jahmene, we can’t wait to hear you win.”

You can watch Jahmene perform in the first part of the final on ITV tonight at 8pm.

Two of the three acts will then go through to the Sunday night show on ITV, which begins at 7.40pm.
