SIX schools across the town have signed up to take part in a charity world record breaking attempt for the most people signing and singing simultaneously.

Taking part in Swindon are Abbey Meads Community Primary School, Colebrook Junior School, Moredon Primary and Nursery School, East Wichel Primary School and Nursery, Lawn Primary School and Oaktree Nursery and Primary School.

Pupils will join in the event, which has been organised by the charity SignHealth, on February 6.

Steve Powell, chief executive at SignHealth, the national healthcare charity for deaf people, said: “Our Guinness World Records sign2sing project is an attempt to break the world record for the most people singing and signing a song at the same time.

“More than 800 schools have signed up so far and we’re delighted six in Swindon are involved in the event too.”

Central Pre-School in Emlyn Square has registered to take part in sign2sing too. Earlier this year 114,277 children took part in SignHealth’s sign2sing 2012 event, including pupils from Swindon, and smashed the world record. The previous record was 94,489.

This will be SignHealth’s third sign2sing event and the charity is hoping to involve more than 175,000 youngsters. Schools, colleges and nurseries across the country can all host their own sign2sing event.
