THE organiser of the annual Christmas Cares charity campaign has launched a desperate appeal for more food donations.

Patsy Moloney, who runs the project which feeds up to 70 needy people over Christmas, said yesterday the level of donations were the lowest since he started 11 years ago.

He is holding two emergency drop-in sessions to welcome any donations at Queens Drive Methodist Church tonight between 7pm and 9.30pm and tomorrow between 10am and 3pm and said he can also pick up donations if necessary.

He said: “The problem is we have no food apart from six packets of bacon and we could be feeding 35 to 40 people for breakfast over the Christmas period.
“I’m panicking because it’s never been this low since I started, and that was 11 years ago.

“We’ve got no vegetables whatsoever and no cheese, which is a really popular sandwich filling. Last year we served 68 turkey dinners and we could have that many again.”
