Houses and Local Plan are topics at meeting in Swindon
12:50pm Tuesday 8th January 2013 in News
THE Hook Street development and the Local Plan are among the items on the agenda at the next West Locality meeting at the Link Centre on Monday, January 14 from 7pm.
Developer Persimmon Homes has submitted a scaled-down outline planning application to build 73 homes on land north of Hook Street, next to Grange Park after a prior proposal for 175 homes was thrown out by the planning inspectorate.
The homes in the revised plans occupy less than half the original site – 3.6 hectares compared to 8.8 hectares – and are sited down the hill to avoid encroaching over the ridge, which was a main argument of those who objected to the original plan.
The Local Plan is an overarching policy that outlines where the homes and jobs are needed in the borough over the next 15 years, the necessary infrastructure to support growth and regeneration, the provision of health, education, and community and cultural facilities.
Swindon Council’s final draft of the document is out to public consultation until February 21.
Councillor Coun Dale Heenan, cabinet member for strategic planning and sustainability, will be in attendance at Monday’s meeting.
Later in the meeting, residents will also get updates from the office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, Angus Macpherson, and from the west neighbourhood police team. There will also be decisions on how to spent the West Locality fund to improve the area.
