TWO pieces by LS Lowry are being displayed at a new exhibition in the town centre.

Swindon Council is hosting the public exhibition at property group Amalgamated Berkshire’s offices, in Station Square.

Lowry’s Winter in Pendlebury and A Procession paintings will be the centrepiece of Station Square’s select exhibition of the council’s art collection, widely considered to be one of the best collections of 20th Century British art in the country.

The pieces will join works by other respected British artists, including John Piper and Alfred Wallis, as well as exemplary work from The Swindon Photography Society’s exhibition A Celebration of Swindon Photographers: Catch A Vision, which is also open to visitors.

Coun Garry Perkins, cabinet member for regeneration and culture, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase some of the gems in our art collection.

“It is also a chance to gain an exclusive look at two of Lowry’s exemplary works prior to Tate Britain’s Lowry and the Painting of Modern Life exhibition this summer.

“This exhibition will give us an even greater incentive to find a new permanent home for our art collection, and I would encourage people to pop along to Station Square to see some of 20th Century Britain’s best works of art.”

The exhibition runs from noon to 5pm Monday to Friday, on Wednesday the exhibition will open from 2-5pm. Booking is available by emailing Jessica Carey on jessica@lilyandmyfanwy.co.uk or by calling 07867 556100.
