Walk your way back to health in Swindon

New walking group is starting up in Pinehurst New walking group is starting up in Pinehurst

A NEW walking group is starting up in Pinehurst for anyone who wants to put their New Year’s resolutions into practice.

Swindon Council’s Health Improvement Team, in association with NHS Swindon and the National Walking For Health Scheme, has added Pinehurst to the list of health walks now available in the town.

The walk starts today and all new walkers who join the group will receive a free calorie-counting pedometer, which organisers hope will encourage more people to get active, to help manage their weight and improve their fitness.

The Pinehurst Health Walk will meet every Friday at 10am at Pinetrees Community Centre, the Circle. The walk is free and people of all ages and abilities are welcome.

The group will be led by a trained leader, and each walk will be between two and three miles at a fairly brisk pace, and will last 45 minutes, before returning to Pinehurst Community Centre for a cup of tea and a chat.

NHS Swindon public health programme manager Fiona Dickens said: “Walking is a great, low cost way to improve your health and mental well-being.

Just by walking, you can reduce the risks of developing heart disease, stroke and type2 diabetes. It also improves your mood.”

Anyone who would like more information on how to take part in the Pinehurst Health Walk should call 01793 465413.

There are a number of Health Walks throughout Swindon. visit www.getwalking.org/swindon.

I guess the lack of comments on this story shows just how much people care about their health.
