STAFF at New College have raised thousands of pounds for Prospect Hospice in memory of a late colleague.

About 200 staff helped to raise £5,000 over the last year in honour of Steve Ridge, director of adult learning, who died in April 2009 after a three-year battle with bowel cancer.

Staff took part in events throughout the year to raise funds, including theatre trips, lottery, quiz nights, a giant Christmas card and raffles, which were organised by Beverley Watts and Barbara Kimber.

Beverley, who works in the repographics department at the college, said: “We are really pleased with the amount raised. We have got fantastic staff at college and that is the only reason we can raise that much.

“Prospect Hospice is a very personal choice for a lot of the staff here.”

Steve had been at the college since it opened and had many friends among the staff.

Staff at the college have raised a total of £21,444 for Prospect Hospice over the years.
