THE Met Office has issued weather warnings over an expected heavy snowfall in Swindon tomorrow and into the weekend.

Temperatures are set to drop to below zero degrees C as heavy snow is predicted to hit the southwest, including Swindon and the surrounding areas according to the latest five-day forecast.

Charles Powell, forecaster for the Met Office, said snow would descend on Swindon during the early hours tomorrow.

He said: “For this part of the UK we have a yellow warning in place – which is the lowest level, but still means that people should prepare for the snow.

“People need to be aware that the snow, which is set to fall in Swindon for much of tomorrow, may cause disruption.

“I would not be surprised at all if by the end of the day there is about five to 10cm of snow on the ground in Swindon.

“We are urging residents to stay up-to-date with the weather warnings and forecast from the Met Office, and to pay attention to the advice given by the local council and highways officials.

“By Sunday it will be dry again, but there may still be snow on the ground so people are urged to take care.”

He added that the cold snap was set to continue into next week, with temperatures not rising above four degrees.
