Aidan set for 10k run

Aidan Moore in training
LAST month Aidan Moore could barely run 500 yards without losing his breath.
Next month the Swindon man will compete in a 10km race to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Aidan signed up for the Gloucester 10k run in February, despite the short training time.
“I wanted to set myself a challenge but not one that was impossible,” said the 30-year-old business development manager from Abbey meads.
“My auntie died just before Christmas and I wanted to do something. A customer from Macmillan came into work and suggested doing a run.”
Aidan decided to join Swindon running club Slinn Allstars in the hope of getting motivation and running tips. Soon he was training intensively while getting useful advice.
“The club has been fantastic and lots of people came forward to help,” said Aidan.
“I am now running about three times a week. In December I probably couldn’t have walked 10km but thanks to my running club I ran the race distance last weekend.”
He set himself a target of raising £150 for the charity but friends and family have been so supportive he has already raised double that and is now hoping to donate a significant amount more than initially hoped for.
As well as raising money for charity, Aidan says he has seen is fitness drastically improved.
“Before I started training I could hardly make it around the park at the back of the house because of my asthma,” he added.
“I have definitely caught the running bug, as I’ve signed up to do a 10 mile race over Easter.”
