Police get a lesson in Muslim culture

NEW Wiltshire Police recruits have visited a Gorse Hill mosque as part of their cultural awareness training.
A total of 15 new police officers, plus two members of Victim Support, went to the Al-Habib Islamic Educational and Cultural Centre, in Chapel Street, yesterday where they listened to a presentation on Islam and sampled ethnic food.
It was part of two days of cultural awareness training, organised by the West Wiltshire Multi Faith Forum.
It also included a visit to a Sikh temple and talks about other faiths, including Hinduism and Rastafari-anism.
Shahid Khan, a sufi teacher at the mosque, who delivered the presentation in the male prayer room, said the visit aimed to build relations between the police and the Muslim community, giving officers a point of contact and greater understanding when dealing with a case involving Muslims.
He said: “Sometimes the police have a need to have someone from the community to help them with cases, so they need to speak to us to get assistance approaching families. “Once there’s this contact, they know who to come to to help them.” Mr Khan, who also explained the basics of Islamic law, said police were not asked to treat Muslims much differently, but reminded the recruits that they do not eat pork, in case they had to provide a meal for a Muslim in custody. He also said if a Muslim woman had to be searched by police, it should be done by a female officer.
Farzana Saker, the chairman of the West Wiltshire Multi Faith Forum, said: “It’s nice for the police to have some background of different faiths. That equips them to learn about the needs of individuals if they find themselves arresting people from a different faith or culture.
“And it also builds a relationship between the community leaders and the officers, so if they’re working in the area they can build relations, they know who to come to.”
PC Andy Parsons, one of the recruits, said: “It’s useful in a practical sense in terms of how we can be more understanding when we’re carrying out our duties.”
And PC John Kilburn said: “The practical side of things I found fascinating, issues of diet and issues of entering properties.”

The MALE prayer room.
Lesson one. Islamic culture is so sexist that even the architecture is sexually discriminatory.

Shahid Khan said: “Sometimes the police have a need to have someone from the community to help them with cases, so they need to speak to us to get assistance approaching families.

How interesting. The Police need help approaching Muslim families.
Do they get help approaching White English families?
Do they get help approaching White Scottish families?
Do they get help approaching White Welsh families?
Do they get help approaching Jewish families?
Do they get help approaching Greek Orthodox families?
Do they get help approaching Polish families?
Probably not. How odd.
QUOTE
Mr Khan also said if a Muslim woman had to be searched by police, it should be done by a female officer.
UNQUOTE
Someone should tell Mr Khan that the Police follow this policy already, for everyone.
It says a lot about his ignorance of British culture that he does not know this or feels the need to point it out.

PC John Kilburn said: “The practical side of things I found fascinating, issues of diet and issues of entering properties

Hmmm. Entering properties. More information needed I feel. Is this anything to do with the extra layer of caution they have applied to approaching families, mentioned above?

On a huge tangent.. but as Prisons were mentioned in the first post... Who gives a toss if muslim prisoners weren't served halal meat! It's a prison and not room service and the Government should grow a pair and stop catering for prisoners (of all cultures and religions) needs!!!
If you treat prisoners like animals, we would need to spend a lot more on prisons, we would need more guards and upon their release, ex cons would simply return to a life of crime, is this really what you want?

Here's a thought perhaps the Council leader and his friends would like to pay a visit and justify why the Muslim community should except same sex marriage, afterall they are not exempt like the CofE.

First, the Quran says that if you eat pork without knowing it, no sin is committed.
Second, Quran 2:173 refers to the "law of necessity" which in practice means, you can eat pork if there is nothing else to eat.

Interestingly, it's apparently fine under Islam for these people to break laws, including having underage sex with non-Muslim girls, and yet it's really, really bad to eat a trace of pig DNA.
Some people need a rapid attitude adjustment.

Pork is also non-kosher in Judaism, are we really going to alienate the jewish minority as well?
The great vast majority of muslims are Law abiding citizens, there are criminals in every ethnic groups, even within the white british community believe it or not....
Currently products are being withdrawn for containing horse meat, it is not unsafe nor against religious teachings, so I really do not think it would be fair to expect others to eat products containing pig meat, which would violate their religious beliefs/rights.
I absolutely agree with you, some people really need a rapid attitude adjustment

I'm sorry but I'm of the opinion that I want to live in a country where the laws, decided by a process of democracy, negotiation, thought, consideration, argument and general acceptance by the majority, and not live by laws which are influenced and adjusted to take account of religion. Why is religion elevated over and above the law of the land and given such preferential status that the police need an entire training program to ensure they 'don't offend'. What next - do we send police on a week long course of playing XBox and Playstation games so they can better understand what causes teenagers to engage in acts of random violence? I am so sick of the state bending over backwards to accommodate those who have different beliefs and demand, not ask, but demand for special treatment. Sadly, it's these sorts of stories which lead to the sort of resentment which ultimately results in the kind of violence and vitriol often aimed at minority ethnic groups.
I'd love to go to an arabic country and see the training the police and public sector workers there get, see how much diversity training and learning of other cultures they undertake. I'll bet it's......none?

The whole criminal justice system needs to toughen up and stop pandering to special interest groups regardless of race, colour, gender.

UKIP seems to have become the new refuge for bigots and racists, which is a shame because originally UKIP had a reasonable agenda.

In that respect, the Tory party is actually becoming more attractive to the vast centrist majority whilst UKIP is becoming the new "extreme" right of the British political spectrum.
I do not have a problem with racism, but I have a problem with hypocrisy.....
