Interesting stuff, and I'm sure the thousands of Muslims currently sitting in British prisons are very thankful that they've not yet managed to introduce Shari'a Law here.

On a huge tangent.. but as Prisons were mentioned in the first post... Who gives a toss if muslim prisoners weren't served halal meat! It's a prison and not room service and the Government should grow a pair and stop catering for prisoners (of all cultures and religions) needs!!!

Now there was I thinking the law is administered without fear or favour, regardless of race, creed or colour.

The police have to tread vary carefully these days, but i'm afraid to say too much cause there is no free speech in this country any more, no matter what they tell you!!!

If you treat prisoners like animals, we would need to spend a lot more on prisons, we would need more guards and upon their release, ex cons would simply return to a life of crime, is this really what you want?

Here's a thought perhaps the Council leader and his friends would like to pay a visit and justify why the Muslim community should except same sex marriage, afterall they are not exempt like the CofE.

The big difference, being that only the CofE is represented in the House of Lords and the Head of State (Her Majesty the Queen) is also the Head of the CofE.

Actually there is no problem at all for a Muslim eating Pork in prison - they have two get outs.

First, the Quran says that if you eat pork without knowing it, no sin is committed.

Second, Quran 2:173 refers to the "law of necessity" which in practice means, you can eat pork if there is nothing else to eat.

All religions should be ridiculed and laughed at. Utter lunacy

Preparing people a free meal that includes pork cannot, on any level, be described as, 'treating them like animals'.

Interestingly, it's apparently fine under Islam for these people to break laws, including having underage sex with non-Muslim girls, and yet it's really, really bad to eat a trace of pig DNA.

Some people need a rapid attitude adjustment.

In the UK, people are free to practise their faith, it is a right that individuals do not surrender even when incarcerated.
Pork is also non-kosher in Judaism, are we really going to alienate the jewish minority as well?
The great vast majority of muslims are Law abiding citizens, there are criminals in every ethnic groups, even within the white british community believe it or not....
Currently products are being withdrawn for containing horse meat, it is not unsafe nor against religious teachings, so I really do not think it would be fair to expect others to eat products containing pig meat, which would violate their religious beliefs/rights.

I'm so pleased (sarcasm alert) to see that in a country where there is such demand for a separation of church/religion and state, the police are having to take classes to ensure that enforcing the state law should take account of religious beliefs and culture.

I'm sorry but I'm of the opinion that I want to live in a country where the laws, decided by a process of democracy, negotiation, thought, consideration, argument and general acceptance by the majority, and not live by laws which are influenced and adjusted to take account of religion. Why is religion elevated over and above the law of the land and given such preferential status that the police need an entire training program to ensure they 'don't offend'. What next - do we send police on a week long course of playing XBox and Playstation games so they can better understand what causes teenagers to engage in acts of random violence? I am so sick of the state bending over backwards to accommodate those who have different beliefs and demand, not ask, but demand for special treatment. Sadly, it's these sorts of stories which lead to the sort of resentment which ultimately results in the kind of violence and vitriol often aimed at minority ethnic groups.

I'd love to go to an arabic country and see the training the police and public sector workers there get, see how much diversity training and learning of other cultures they undertake. I'll bet it's......none?

Surely this whole thing is the wrong way round - should it not be the police telling the muslims "This is British culture, these are our laws, and these are the consequences if you break them!

No it's mainly ex labour people who gravitate to the BNP. Whilst I deplore the BNP for their racist agenda, at least you know what you get, Labour, Libdems, Tories simply take the least line of resistance which is normally at the expense of the white indigenous, heterosexual male majority. Even women are now deemed to superior to us rather than simply equal.

UKIP is more popular than ever, however it seems to be attracting people having very little inclusive views of modern Society / World.
In that respect, the Tory party is actually becoming more attractive to the vast centrist majority whilst UKIP is becoming the new "extreme" right of the British political spectrum.
