SPACESHIPS, animals and parents were among the subjects of drawings by members of a Swindon Scout group for National Doodle Day .

Members of the 1st Stratton St Margaret Scout Group, put pen to paper as part of the national event, which aimed to raise money for UK charity, Epilepsy Action.

This year, the charity invited people to “do a doodle, donate a pound” with the chance of winning a prize in a national competition.

The Stratton Scouts and Beaver Scouts took part on Friday at the Scout Hall, in Taylor Crescent, Kingsdown Park, while the Cubs did their scribbling on Thursday. A total of £60 was raised for charity.

Terry Shipp, the Scout leader, said the group decided to take part as some of its members in the past had suffered from epilepsy.

He said: “There were some really good drawings. Some of the young people are quite artistic but they’re all going to be sent into the competition.

“We did it because we have had children with epilepsy, and so we thought it was a good cause.

“Scouting is a charity but it’s nice to do events for other charities like that and it’s good for the scouts and it’s educating them as well about what epilepsy is.”

North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson and Coun Russell Holland (Con, St Margaret and South Marston), also drew some doodles.

The competition has three categories – seven years and under, eight to 16 years and 17 years and over.

The winning doodlers will receive up to £150 worth of arts and crafts vouchers and a 3D custom-made figure of their doodle courtesy of Lucy Moose.
