A DOMINO’S delivery driver was ambushed and threatened with a realistic fake gun into handing over a pizza ordered by bogus callers.

Police confirmed the incident took place on Saturday at 4.30am in Penhill and said the 52-year-old driver has been left badly shaken.

The driver, from Domino’s West Swindon, had gone to a house in Downton Road to deliver the pizza, which detectives believe was ordered to a real address as a decoy, but when he arrived he was set upon by two men.

They brandished an imitation gun and forced him to hand over the pizza before armed police were called and a short time later detained two men on suspicion of robbery.

One resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “There were armed police and cop cars everywhere. It was really early in the morning and the noise woke me and my family up.

“We heard it was an armed robbery and they held up a delivery driver at gunpoint. It sounded really bad and I just hope the driver is all right.”

Detective Inspector Mark Garrett, of Swindon CID, said: “This was a serious incident which took place in Downton Road, Penhill at 4.30am on Saturday.

“It appears the offenders ordered a pizza and waited for the driver to arrive at the wrong address. They produced an imitation hand gun and stole his pizza bag – I understand drivers do not carry any cash with them.”
