Swindon turns romantic for Valentine’s
ROMANTICS across the town will be hoping love will blossom on Valentine’s Day tomorrow.
Dozens of bouquets have already been sold at The Flower Basket in Devizes Road and The Flower Shop in Victoria Road, while Deacon & Son jewellers in Wood Street has been selling engagement rings, commitment rings and heart-themed jewellery.
Meanwhile, three couples who have already found love are due to tie the knot at Swindon Register Office and Lydiard Conference Centre tomorrow.
Cheryl Deller, proprietor of The Flower Basket, said: “Flowers are always popular. I think men are quite soppy when it comes to Valentine’s Day. Romance is alive and doing well.
“We’ve been quite busy but gentlemen are very last minute so we are expecting it to be much busier today.”
The Flower Basket, which has ordered in about 900 roses and thousands of other flowers especially for Valentine’s Day, has 17 hand-tied Valentine’s themed items on offer.
The Flower Shop, in Victoria Road, has also ordered in thousands of roses especially for Valentine’s Day.
Beverly Dockerill, senior florist, said: Valentine’s is one of the most popular times of the year. Valentine’s and Christmas are always busy.”
Romantics have also been flocking to Deacons in Wood Street for Valentine’s gifts.
Two couples will be getting hitched at Swindon Register Office on the special day while another will be getting married at Lydiard.
Aneka Williams, 24, of Old Town, will be marrying Leeroy Stroud, 27, at the register office tomorrow.
“We originally planned to get married on our anniversary in September but unfortunately we had to change it. Out of the blue Leeroy said rather than waiting until September, why not do it on Valentine’s Day?,” she said.
“I think we are both very romantic like that.
“We always celebrate Valentine’s Day.
“There will be no excuses for forgetting our anniversary either.”
Leeroy proposed while the couple were looking at engagement rings in Argos.
