Call to join lakes charity walk to aid Prospect Hospice
8:30pm Tuesday 12th February 2013 in News By Scott D'Arcy
FATHER and son team Rob and James Quick will be walking in memory of his wife and mother Sue to raise funds for the hospice that helped her.
The pair are among those taking part in The Walk of Memories – one of the Prospect Hospice’s most popular fundraisers TE Connectivity worker Rob, 46, was so appreciative of the care the hospice gave Sue he is now calling on family and friends to raise funds and he also wants others who value the work of the hospice to sign up for the event.
He said: “The team at Prospect Hospice did so much for Sue when she was a patient there, and were very supportive of me too.
“Last year it cost more than £5m to run the hospice, so I feel I would like to put something back, which is why me, our son James, my mother-in-law Bonny and friends Kenny and Debbie Richards and their children Kieran, Jessica, Layla and Joseph will put our walking boots on for the Walk Of Memories.
“Sue would have been proud that we have raised £400 in only two weeks - she did Race For Life and always had a smile on her face.
“Even when the doctors told her her cancer was incurable three years ago she said ‘I don’t feel any different, I’m going back to work’ – that was how brave she was.”
Families and keen walkers are being encouraged to sign up for Prospect Hospice’s annual walk which takes place on March 3.
The five-mile sponsored walk around the Cotswold Lakes, starts and finishes at the Four Pillars Hotel near South Cerney, and is billed by the hospice as a peaceful and reflective walk for the whole family.
“Over the years our Walk Of Memories has become a popular event for people who want to raise money for us, without having to be super-fit,” said hospice fundraiser Genevieve Arney.
“It’s a gentle walk, which means more of the family can take part, which is particularly relevant to those who choose to walk it in memory of someone they have lost.”
