A WORLD record-breaking violinist was recording in Swindon this weekend with singer Colm McCarthy.

Oliver Lewis was in Swindon to record for the an album by Colm with the working title Badd Ladd.

Oliver joined the Irish-born builder for five hours recording in Drive Recording Studios, Eastcott Hill, to record under the guiding hand of studio owner and sound engineer Phil Legende.

Phil said: “It went really well. Ollie is worldclass. I sent him the songs and he came up with some astonishing violin playing. He was the icing on the cake.’’ The violinist broke the Guinness World Record for the fastest performance of the Flight of the Bumblebee. He played the piece in one minute and 3.356 seconds in a live broadcast on the BBC TV children’s programme Blue Peter in October 2010.

Oliver has played with the Bern Symphony Orchestra, the Heidelberg Chamber Orchestra, was featured in the Charles film Ladies In Lavender, as well as his own Deviations Project.

He also played violin with Phil in Swindon band Anish.

Colm, 44, from Akers Way, is a staunch supporter of homeless charities in the town, having known what it is like to walk the streets himself. Originally from County Cork, the singer donated 25 per cent of the proceeds of his Christmas single to charity and also organised a gig in aid of Christmas Cares.

Colm was delighted that Oliver played on his songs.

He said: “I’ve got a world class violin player putting violin on a few of my songs. I am loving it big time.’’ Oliver played on four tracks for the album.

Several Wiltshire musicians are also featured, including Ian Styles on bass, Adriana Beaumont-Thomas on piano, Janet Thompson on acoustic guitar and John Beaumont-Thomas and Matt Jackson on guitars.

Colm is hoping to release Badd Ladd in April through itunes. For details visit www.drivemusic.co.uk or www.myspace-.com/Drive.Music
