A LOCAL funeral director has been recognised as one of the best in the country.

The independent funeral consumer advocacy organisation, The Good Funeral Guide, has praised Hillier Funeral Service for the way it treats its clients.

The guide, which is a not-for-profit social enterprise company, assesses funeral homes according to criteria which focus on the quality of the experience they offer.

Mark Hillier, managing director of Hillier Funeral Service, said: ‘We are very proud to have been selected for inclusion in The Good Funeral Guide. During the 90 years we have been serving Swindon families, we have always strived to deliver a personal, respectful and professional service, and it is gratifying when the hard work of our staff is recognised.”

Hillier Funeral service, which was established in the 1920s, has an office in Victoria Road, Old Town, and can also be found at the Chapel of Rest in The Broadway, Whitworth Road. The Good Funeral Guide is independent of the funeral industry and offers information and guidance to the bereaved.

Charles Cowling, the guide’s author, said: “Choosing a funeral director can be very difficult because they all look much the same. But they’re not. Some, a precious few, are truly outstanding and Hillier Funeral Service is one of them.

“The team at Hillier’s are unsung heroes doing a magnificent job, and the people of Swindon and the surrounding area deserve to know this.”

The accreditation process also involved spending time behind the scenes.

The report, which is available on the guide’s website, said: “If you choose Hillier Funeral Service ,you can be confident that you will be building a relationship with people who want above all to help you arrange the funeral you hope for.

“They are genuinely open to new ideas and are willing to be flexible to meet your needs and requirements while always offering the highest standards of care.”
