Scrapstore moves to new home
AN ENVIRONMENTAL charity will move to a new home, just days before its current premises are due to be demolished.
Swindon Children’s Scrap-store will be closing down in West Swindon at 4pm today, then opening at Unit 2 in Bramble Close on the Elgin Industrial Estate on Tuesday at 10am.
The charity’s Bridgemead Business Centre base is being pulled down on Monday.
Project Manager Olivia McCann said: “The landlord has been granted planning permission to redevelop the site. We have a short timeframe to relocate and set up the Scrapstore at the new property. But, thankfully, we are receiving support from the community to help us.”
The Scrapstore is a registered environmental charity, community resource centre and social enterprise, set up in 1985 to providing clean, re-usable materials for educational and recreational play.
In January 2011, it has to relocate again, to its current premises in West Swindon after a fire destroyed the Cheney Manor base.
Olivia said: “Thankfully, we are receiving the generous support of the DHL Logistic Team to move the Scrapstore, which will enable us to relocate and set up at the premises in Bramble Close in the short period of time we have.
“We would like to say thank you to Chris Brooks, from Whitmarsh and Lockart, who helped to secure the property in Bramble Close, with very short notice, which has really helped us out. We would like to thank DHL for all their support with the logistics and staff support.
“The Scrapstore has been in operation for the past 27 years and benefits over 40,000 people in Swindon, through the services and resources we offer.”
Scrappers Boxing Gym and Community Fitness Centre will close temporarily, until new premises can be secured, as there is not enough space at the Bramble Close site.
The Scrapstore’s opening hours are Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 4pm, and Saturdays from 10am to 2pm.
