Swindon pooch lover needs 10,000 Facebook 'likes' to adopt rescue dog
A DOG lover is looking for people to ‘like’ her Facebook photo so her husband will let her adopt another rescue dog.
Diana Kirk, of St Andrew’s Ridge, who already has a rescue dog and a rescue cat, is hoping to take Willman the labradoodle home.
Her husband, Stuart, has said she can have Willman if she gets 10,000 likes on the social network site.
“Willman is in a foster home in Essex at the moment as the shelter near him is so full that they're having to put dogs down,” said the 29-year-old.
“I've asked my hubby for another dog before and he's always said no but this time he joked that if I could get 10,000 likes on Facebook then I could have him.
“I started the Facebook campaign off on Wednesday and have more than 400 likes so I need a bit of help.”
Diana, who works at ATBShop, in Faringdon Road, takes her current rescue dog, Abbie, to work with her.
“She is my best friend and comes everywhere with me. If I go to the beach she comes along and surfs with me,” she said. “If I go paddle boarding on the Thames, Abbie will come and paddle board with me. She even comes to work with me.
“Everyone loves Abbie at work as we have an indoor skate park, where she meets and greets everyone as they come in.
“I think Abbie could do with another dog at work for company.”
Diana said she has had a lot of interest since she posted the photo on Facebook this week.
“Since I launched this campaign for Willman, I’ve been inundated with people asking me about how they can re-home a rescue a dog.
“I think this is fantastic, as a lot of people just buy dogs without thinking,” she said.
“Unfortunately, hundreds are being put down every week when there is no real reason other than fact that the shelters can't take in any more in.
“I know this If I get 10,000 likes on facebook idea is a bit of a craze right now but if this one which I've started saves Willman and a few other dogs then I’ll be happy.”
