ONE of the jewels in Old Town’s eating out crown is in the running for a national award.
Los Gatos, in Wood Street, attracts customers from across the town and beyond – and they are hoping to be voted as the UK’s Best Tapas.
Today is also Andalucía Day and to mark the occasion the restaurant will be showcasing some of its highly talked-about food, as well as launching its Loteria de Jamon, which is a chance to buy one of 100 tickets for £1 and be in the chance of winning a Spanish ham.
Sharon Campbell, who runs the restaurant with Phil Saunter, said: “We are proud of our food because we cook everything on the premises and we use the best ingredients either from local producers or imported from Spain so they are authentic.
“We aim to to produce a Spanish feel to the restaurant that people say we achieve and even Spanish people think we are good.
“We will be asking for people who come into the restaurant, or have been here to vote and we are confident we can do well.”
Andalucía, in Southern Spain, is thought to be the home of tapas and on Andalucía Day celebrations take place throughout the region with tapas playing a huge part.
Set up and run by Andalucían beer brand Alhambra, the competition to find the UK’s Best Tapas will run via its Facebook page with consumers asked to nominate or vote for their favourite all round tapas venue.
