Showers at the Link Centre have now reopened after being shut for some weeks due to the discovery of the bacteria legionella.
Legionella can cause the serious lung infection legionnaires’ disease. It is usually caught by breathing in small droplets of contaminated water, but it is not contagious and cannot be spread directly from person to person.
A Swindon Council spokesman said: “As the Link Centre pool was closed for an extended period of time, we carried out routine testing of the showers prior to the reopening of the pool.
“However, small traces of legionella were found and we kept the showers closed as a precaution while remedial action was undertaken.
“A specialist contractor took further tests and, as the samples were analysed in a laboratory, the results took some time to come back.
“The showers have since been given the all-clear and have been reopened.”
