A CONSULTATION will be held today over development plans for the Abbey Stadium site.

Developer Persimmon Homes Wessex is holding a public exhibition at the Abbey Stadium between 10am and 8pm today to give residents the opportunity to drop in and discuss a draft proposal for 184 homes in Salzgitter Drive.

In August 2011, outline planning permission was granted by the council for the demolition of the stadium and construction of a new stadium with youth training facilities, 16,745sq metres of business floor space, a residential care home and 450 homes.

When granting outline planning permission, the section 106 agreement recognised the need for housing to enable the new stadium development and allows for up to 200 dwellings to be built and occupied before a contract for the new stadium can start.

This is the first phase of the development with details of the stadium subject to future consultation.

perhaps relocating the football ground there would be a better idea.

or not. I don't think it's a big enough site for a football ground

Persimmon forgot to put all the queuing traffic on the A419 during rush hour. Once they get approved it'll be like a domino effect with other projects getting the go ahead on that area of the ridge.

Too many houses creating too much congestion.

In 10 years time the A419 junction is going to be at a standstill for half the day. Its not great now and in the region on another 4,000 houses are likley to be built in the vicinity.
