Swindon set to be coldest place in the country tonight

Could we see more of this in Swindon? Could we see more of this in Swindon?

SWINDON is being warned to brace itself to be the coldest place in the country tonight.

Temperatures are expected to feel as low as -12 degrees after 9pm, making it the coldest place in the UK.

Tomorrow is expected to be cold again, with temperatures not forecast to feel above -3 degrees at any point.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: “It will be feeling bitterly cold, with snow in places.

“In the evening and overnight it will be remaining dry in most places, but still a few outbreaks of snow along the south coast, particularly further east and Gloucestershire. It will be a very cold night with widespread frost and icy patches.”

Officially the temperature is expected to be -4 degrees, but with the 19mph wind and 38mph gusts from the north-east it will feel like -12 degrees.

The spokesman said tomorrow was forecast to be cold too.

“There will be a cold and frosty start. There is a small chance of an isolated snow shower, but most places dry and bright. Still feeling bitterly cold in the brisk northeasterly winds. Maximum temperature will be 4 degrees,” he said.

Wind speed will reach a maximum of 19mph, with gusts of 37mph.

On Wednesday, temperatures will feel like 0 degrees at 3pm, which will be the maximum temperature for the day.

Leave all the shop doors open in the town centre. Many shops believe open doors act as a magnet to entice customers inside a freezing cold shop rather than keep the heat inside!
