A NEW community theatre group will be putting on a contemporary one-act musical in April as part of a wider festival.

Modern Musicals will be performing The Last Five Years by Robert Jason Brown at The Swindon Dance Theatre on April 7.

Part of the Madame Renards Mini Fringe Festival – a five day event showcasing a number of theatrical performances across Swindon – The Last Five Years aims to take traditional musical theatre and give it a modern twist. The show combines classic Broadway with punk and rock in an emotional and humorous story.

“Since I first heard the music from The Last Five Years, I knew I wanted to bring it to Swindon,” said James Canning, a member of the group.

“The story is one that many people will relate to as it explores the ups and downs of a relationship in a very honest and exposing way.”

The story focuses on two people in a relationship and looks at their story from different perspectives.

“The audience will be treated to an evening of live music as well as a touching and tragic love story,” said James.

Tickets cost £10 plus booking fee and can be purchased online from www.modernmusicals.org
