Lads are ready for a feast of football

Members of the STFITC DS Active team who will take part in the Premier League’s Down’s Syndrome Football Festival
FOOTBALLING youngsters from the town will travel to West Bromwich Albion FC this weekend for the Premier League’s Down’s Syndrome Football Festival.
STFITC DS Active, as part of the Swindon Town Football in the Community programme, will travel to The Albion Foundation Building for the event.
They will join 13 other DSActive teams from across the country in the festival, which will include games and a tournament for the team’s 13-year-old plus players.
STFITC DSACTIVE began in 2001 and has been training every Wednesday at the Haydon Centre in Haydon Wick.
Head Coach of STFITC DS Active Allan Minns said: “All the boys have been working really hard in training and Sunday will be a memorable occasion, not just for the players but for all of their families as well.
“They are a super bunch of lads who really enjoy seeing each other every week at training. We are hoping to have more fixtures after the festival against other professional clubs.“ Scott Pollington Woods, DSActive football development officer at the Down’s Syndrome Association, said: “We are ecstatic to have STFITC DS Active join us at the festival this year.
“The festival allows us to bring our players from across the country together to put into practice the skills and techniques that they are learning weekly in a fun, comfortable, yet competitive environment.
“I am excited to see the developments that STFITC DS Active have made ever since they launched in 2001.”
The Premier League’s Down’s Syndrome Football Festival is made possible through a donation by Football Aid and the donation of the facilities from The Albion Foundation.
DSActive is administrated in partnership between the Down’s Syndrome Association and professional and amateur football clubs with the aim to get as many children and young people with Down’s Syndrome playing football.
