CONFIRMATION that a tri-service technical training base is being established at RAF Lyneham has been welcomed by North Wiltshire MP James Gray.

He spoke after defence secretary Philip Hammond revealed that 4,000 of the military returning to the UK following the closure of bases in Germany are destined for Wiltshire.

“Our county has a long history with the Army and the announcement is fantastic news for businesses throughout Wiltshire,” said Mr Gray.

The airfields, which became known throughout the country for the repatriations of fallen servicemen and women from Afghanistan and Iraq, is due to be handed over to the Army in 2015.
