Furniture charity really top drawer (From Swindon Advertiser)

TOP DRAWER is a charity which helps people who have been made homeless and are on low incomes furnish their homes.

They offer volunteering opportunities to people on low incomes and clients from other services, including mental health.

Working with a belief that even those on low income are entitled to good quality furniture and safety-checked appliances, Top Drawer helps people at the bottom get back on their feet.

“We help people who often have nothing. We sometimes go into houses and that person has absolutely nothing, even cutlery,” said Steve Pickering, team leader for the charity. “After several months, when they have started to get back on their feet we can move the furniture on to someone else who needs it.”

“Winning this award is absolutely fantastic and we’re very proud to have won it. It is great to be able to tell everyone who works for us that their job means something and they are making a difference.”
