TWO friends will be going the extra mile to watch Swindon Town play Yeovil on Tuesday.
On Sunday morning, Adam Wainwright and Corrinne Davis will take their first steps on a run to Yeovil Town to raise funds for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
The pair will set off from The County Ground tomorrow and will run the 70 miles to Yeovil’s Huish Park ground in time for Town’s League One fixture.
Adam, 32, is marketing and promotions executive at Swindon Town FC whilst Corrinne works as a personal trainer at Kiss Gym in Swindon.
They hope to raise cash for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance, which is Swindon Town FC’s charity of the year for the second successive season.
This is not the first challenge Adam has attempted this season. In October he took part in a charity trek up Mount Toubkal, in Morocco, raising more than £2,000 for the air ambulance.
He said: “I have wanted to get involved with the charity this year and this came about through discussions with Caroline Corrigan of Wiltshire Air Ambulance.
“I am a keen runner but this is very different.
“The Wiltshire Air Ambulance is Swindon Town’s charity this year and it is a great charity that has an impact on a lot of the fans of the club.”
Ms Corrigan, the charity’s head of fundraising, said: “Adam has already raised a huge amount of money for us when he completed the trek to the top of the highest Atlas Mountain in September 2012.
“When he and Corrine said they would like to do a run from Swindon to Yeovil in aid of our work, we were happy to help.
“This event will raise lots of awareness for the charity on route to Yeovil and we thank STFC, Yeovil Town and all those companies who are supporting our work.
“The funds raised from this event will help to keep us flying and saving lives. Funding needed by Wiltshire Air Ambulance will rise from £700,000 per year to £2.5m by the end of 2014.
“We can only reach this amount with the help of people like Adam, Corrinne and STFC’s on-going support and we wish them all the best.”
