LIVE plays by the National Theatre are to be screened in Swindon over the coming weeks.

Empire Cinema, in Greenbridge, will be showing People, This House and The Audience as part of the series.

The first, People, will be shown at 7pm on Thursday and tickets are on sale now.

Starring the Olivier Award-winning actress Frances De La Tour, best known for her role as the giant teacher Madam Maxime in the Harry Potter series, People is new comedy about a stately manor and its owner.

The play by Alan Bennett follows lead character Dorothy and her companion as they face their home becoming opened to the public.

Audiences can expect an evening of the finest entertainment as the two ladies face offers for their home from the most unlikely places.

Theatre-lovers can also look forward to the National Theatre Live screenings of This House on May 16 and the West End hit The Audience on June 13.

Tickets are expected to sell-out for the one night-only screenings.

Jon Nutton, marketing director of Empire Cinemas, said: “It is a pleasure to be able to screen People, This House and The Audience as they’re performed live on stage at the National Theatre.

“To be able to capture the excitement of the live performance and bring it to our cinemagoers is great. Here at Empire Cinemas we pride ourselves on offering a wide range of entertainment – it’s brilliant to see the alternative content screenings going from strength to strength.”
