FITNESS fanatics piled on the pounds for Comic Relief at the Link Centre at the weekend.

The Swindon Council-owned leisure centre held a Red Nose Fitness Weekend and raised more than £1,000 for the charity appeal.

People taking part in the classes were asked to make a minimum £2 donation to Comic Relief instead of paying the usual booking fee.

The fundraiser, which included a charity cake stall, ran throughout Friday, Saturday and Sunday and featured classes ranging from BodyCombat and BodyAttack to Zumba.

A total of 434 people took part over the three days, with some wearing fancy dress.

Elsewhere, the Swindon Shin Splints, a running group set up by the council, raised £166 for Comic Relief as 73 runners took part in a competition to predict how long it would take each of them to run 3km around Coate Water.

Danni Love won a meal for two and a bottle of wine, courtesy of The Sun Inn, as she finished in 19 minutes 38 seconds, just one second slower than her predicted time.
