PRIMARY school pupils from around Swindon have been testing their Road Safety Knowledge.

The annual Junior Road Safety Quiz took place last week at the Ellendune Centre in Wroughton and was won by Lainesmead Primary School.

Fourteen teams entered and each had three members. The Lainesmead team was made up of Joanna, Divya and Sinead, who are all Year Six pupils.

Lorraine Walker, a teaching assistant at Lainesmead, said: “We’re very pleased to win and are so proud of the girls. They did all the hard work. We gave them two booklets from which to learn the material and tested them each lunchtime.

“They were very reliable so we knew we’d picked the right team.”

The teams had to answer questions based on the junior version of The Highway Code and general roadcraft, such as sustainable transport.

The event was organised by Swindon Council’s Safer and Smarter Journey’s team.

Margaret Tester, road safety manager for Swindon Council, said: “It’s a really good way of raising awareness about road safety and general road usage.”
