Rise in council tax restricted
6:10pm Thursday 21st March 2013 in News
Coun Paul Hurst
CHANGES introduced nationally by the government mean the council tax base for Wroughton has been reduced from £2,920.4 to £2,635.8, with the parish council not receiving any assistance from Swindon Council to offset the reduction.
This has meant that even with no change to the precept demand, the council tax for a Band D dwelling would have increased by 10.79 per cent.
Wroughton Parish Council considered the increase to be unacceptable and has taken the decision to restrict the increase to five per cent and not increase its budget for the coming year.
Parish council chairman Coun Paul Hurst said: “The next financial year is going to be a challenging one, with trying to find savings. Although the parish council has decided to use their reserves for the coming year, they cannot rely on this in the future.”
More details on Wroughton Parish Council’s Precept and budget are available from the parish council office.
