PRIMARY school children are taking part in free fitness sessions to help get them into sport.
Mike Buss, who runs the mikebussPT Fitness Centre in Maxwell Street, is offering each school an hour of free fitness training a week.
The mikebussPT Fitness Centre has been set up as a not for profit community gym and is running outreach programmes to help combat obesity in Swindon.
“We are firstly tackling the childhood obesity epidemic by approaching primary schools in the Swindon area,” said Mike.
“We are doing this by going into primary schools offering each school one hour of fitness per week free of charge. We are offering Bokwa, FITkidz and other styles of fitness training designed especially for kids.
“Any parent that would be interested in their child taking part in this scheme should get hold of their school head to say they would like us to offer this to their school.”
They are also launching their FITkidz Holiday camp this Easter and there is still time to book.
It is £5 per child per day and runs from 10am to noon from March 25-29 and April 2-l 5. Each day will involve fun fitness games, team games, arts and crafts, an easter egg hunt, and introduction to first aid for kids where they will get a first aid certificate at the end of the week.
“Did you know that we are the fattest town in the south west of England?” said Mike.
“Did you also know we have more gyms per square mile in Swindon than most towns across England. If gyms worked we should be a super fit town, but we are not.
“I have, therefore, set up a charity foundation called FITswindon foundation, which is aimed at offering a community gym, offering professional fitness at the fraction of commercial gyms at only £10 per month.
“We also have an outreach programme across Swindon via our free Fitness for Kids Schools Programme, working with the probation service, and community groups and organisations across Swindon.”
Parents can book their children on to the FITkidz Holiday Camp by calling 07791 356 482 or by emailing activelifeuk@ hotmail.com.
