HIGHWORTH traders are hoping a saucy calendar will help put their town on the business map.

A dozen High Street shop workers have bared all in an effort to raise eyebrows and money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Highworth High Street Calendar 2007 features staff from the dry cleaners, florists, hairdressers, butchers and bakers.

Even the dentists and local post office agreed the exposure could benefit business while boosting Macmillan's funds.

In the past three years the High Street has lost two DIY shops, a saddler, a framer, a toyshop and a jeweller. But traders hope the racy calendar will show shoppers what they've been missing.

Clare Banfield, of Gillian's Flowers, said: "It's been a real shame to see some shops close as it's made a huge difference in the number of people who use the High Street. That's one of the reasons I agreed to be a model for the calendar. It's showing the High Street in a completely different light."

The calendar was the brainchild of Swindon Web's Phil Poulton. It was created by graphic designer Lee Hiom and printed by Piers Martin, owner of Kall Kwik printers in Swindon.

Highworth-based photographer Simon Apps, of Professional Images, took the photos.

He said: "Shooting the calendar was good fun and everyone was very relaxed within a few minutes of stripping off.

"Many of us know someone who has suffered with cancer and a number of the people involved with this project have their own personal reasons for taking part.

"This project enables me to thank the Macmillan nurses for caring for a very good friend who I lost to the disease this year, aged just 39."

The calendar costs £7.50, but donations would be appreciated. It is being published on Friday and will be available from shops in Highworth High Street and online at www.highworthcalendar.co.uk
