AN ADVERTISING campaign which has launched this week in Swindon is aiming to help reduce the high proportion of people with diabetes in the area who are missing out on vital care.

There are more than 10,300 people diagnosed with diabetes in Swindon but Diabetes UK says just 22 per cent of them are getting the nine annual checks which are recommended by NICE to help manage their condition.

The adverts in Penhill Surgery, Crossroads General Practice, Abbey Meads Medical Practice and Hawthorn Medical Centre will set out the 15 Healthcare Essentials Diabetes UK says every diabetic should be getting.

The 15 Healthcare Essentials can be downloaded at www.diabetes.org.uk/15-essentials Or, if you want to speak to someone, call Diabetes UK’s Careline on 0845 120 2960.
