THE SWINDON branch of the UK Independence Party (UKIP) has revealed the manifesto it hopes will help it steal council seats at the local elections in the town in 2014.

Swindon Council did not have an election this year, but a third of the seats (19) will be up for grabs in 2014 and UKIP is putting up candidates in all wards for the first time.

Following the unprecedented success of UKIP in other council elections in England this month, the Swindon branch has produced a Swindon-specific manifesto to get campaigning under way for the local election.

The top manifesto policy is more effective frontline service delivery by Swindon Council, focussed on the core services that affect everyone, such as refuse and recycling, street cleaning, council house maintenance and road repairs.

UKIP pledges to cut council management and remove private consultants through a radical reduction of the council management structure.

The party has stated it will protect the elderly and disabled from the effects of benefit reductions.

The party wants a council tax freeze for five years. It has a zero-tolerance policy on crime and antisocial behaviour.

The party says it would tackle youth unemployment and skills gaps by stimulating the local economy through council services, education and close partnership with private enterprise.

UKIP promises it would not support any new Private Finance Initiatives and would always look for development on brownfield sites before greenfield sites, regenerating the town centre first rather than building on the periphery.
