A PUB in Upper Stratton has become the latest to fall victim to the tough trading conditions.

The Queensfield, in Upper Stratton, closed last week less than two years after it had re-opened.

It is owned by Enterprise Inns and is the latest in a line of Swindon sites owned by the firm to close. The Rolleston, in Commercial Road, closed in April but has since re-opened and The Grapes, near the town centre, closed in September.

A company spokesman said: “The Queensfield has closed temporarily and we are working hard to open it again as soon as possible.”

It also said the licence holders have not been replaced while they seek to start trading again. The pub was previously run by John Doyle but he was forced to close the doors in 2011, blaming the price he was being forced to pay for beer as well as the cost of rent charged by Enterprise.

Coun Joe Tray (Con, Penhill & Upper Stratton) said: “It’s a shame the pub closed but I just don’t think it was supported by Queensfield residents.”
