HOPES that one of the world’s top DJs could play at the re-opened Brunel Rooms have taken a severe knock after his agent said he would not come to Swindon.

A newly-formed company called Brunel Rooms Swindon intends to reopen the nightclub, in Havelock Square, which closed as Liquid & Envy in November 2011 when owners Luminar went bust.

The opening night has been announced as Thursday, August 1 and the firm is promising that some big acts will perform on the opening night, the following Friday and throughout the following weekend.

On the club’s official Twitter page, the Brunel team told followers that they had booked Dutch trance music producer and DJ, Armin van Buuren, who is often seen as the world’s number one ranked DJ, having won DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs fan poll a record five times.

The club told followers in further tweets that a helipad would be booked for him to arrive in the town and that tickets would be £20 or £25.

The same claim also appeared on the club’s Facebook page, although the posts have since been removed from both Twitter and Facebook.

However, Tim Smeets, of David Lewis Productions, which is Mr van Buuren’s agent, told the Adver in an email from Amsterdam that the star was not booked for Swindon and the firm had asked the club to take the claim off their social media pages.

He said: “I can confirm to you that no gig has been planned at that room, neither will be one.

“We are touring with Armin only after the summer worldwide and are only focusing on big plays for him.

“The only UK show Armin is doing is SW4.

“Just heard this today. Put a reply on a Facebook post and they deleted that post now. Will call them this week.”

Jason Ranford, a director of The Brunel, said: “First of all I take full personal responsibility for the Armin situation.

“My current business partner is a big Premier League football star and has connections with Armin personally and I was promised on many occasions that I would receive paperwork to confirm such a booking.

“We have looked in to helipad landing yes, because we had full intention of this happening.

“We have not tried to mislead any potential customers and have never released any date publicly that I was in belief that would be the date.

“I have learnt a very valuable lesson that me and no one from my club will announce any act at all without contractual paperwork being received.

“I can announce that all acts confirmed on our sites have been confirmed and Brunel Rooms have received contracts for all such acts.

“I personally apologise for the fact this was announced before we had paperwork in hand and have learnt an invaluable lesson.

“No tickets or prices to my knowledge have ever been publicly announced.”

The confirmed acts named on the Facebook page include Dusky, Krafty Kuts, and Plump Dj's.
