ONE Swindon charity will get the chance to ‘Pass GO’ and land a space on the new, customised Monopoly board for the town.

The Swindon Edition Monopoly makers are re-opening vote lines from today after deciding to offer one site on the official board to a local charity. The charity – which will have to be formally registered with the Charity Commission as well as have a Swindon connection –will even get to appear in the upper reaches of the board.

That means it will sit alongside the local landmarks that will get to replace Mayfair and Park Lane on the original Monopoly, the board’s two most exclusive and expensive locations.

The site the charity will appear on is traditionally a ‘tax’ space where players pay the equivalent of £100 for landing on it. “We feel this would sit well with a charity – as well as fit well on the board,” said Dan Taylor, who is the Monopoly manager at Winning Moves. “Players landing on this location have to make donations to the Monopoly bank – in the form of a 100 Monopoly dollar fine.

“So we’re sure this could well hit the spot with either a Swindon-based charity or a national charity represented in the town.”

Landmarks like The Magic Roundabout and County Ground are set to feature on the board which will be available in October in time for Christmas.

"The public was invited to nominate general local landmarks and organisations. “We have received the most wonderful suggestions and nominations in their thousands and would like to thank every person who has voted,” said Dan.

“Now, as an extra thank you, we’ve decided to offer a charity its own special site too.”

The board will be available online as well as at Amazon.co.uk, Asda, Debenhams, PLAY.com, Tesco, Toys R Us, Waterstones and WH Smith.

Nominations are now open and will close on Monday, June 24. Nominations for charities should be sent to swindon@winningmoves.co.uk or posted to SWINDON, Winning Moves UK, 7 Praed Street, London W2 1NJ.
