JAKE Kelty was one of more than 1,200 people in Swindon out of work until he got help from a local charity.

Jake was unemployed for 14 months before joining the Work Programme with TCV Employment and Training Services.

TCV help unemployed people in Swindon, Cheltenham, Gloucester and Bristol back to work by offering free recruitment solutions to employers in the area.

After just one day with the charity Jake landed a job as a sales assistant at Tennessee Chicken on Victoria Road.

After a redundancy from his last job in the hospitality sector Jake faced an uncertain future as a young person who became long term unemployed.

Jake said that the main problems that he faced when he was unemployed were that he was low on confidence, he needed some careers advice and guidance and he needed an introduction to some local employers in Swindon.

On Jake’s first official day with TCV Jake was introduced to Tennessee Chicken and after an instant success on his interview Jake was hired.

Jake is now working part time as a sales assistant at Tennessee and says that without the help from TCV he would still be unemployed.

He said: “TCV have helped me back to work after just one day on the Work Programme, it was an instant success.”

Jake hopes to join the Army in the future but he understands that being employed is the most important thing for him at the moment.
