ROBERT Le Kyng Primary School has had a facelift courtesy from Zurich insurance employees in Swindon, who are embarking on a series of community projects.

Staff from Zurich ploughed time and money into refurbishing the garden at the school turning it into a new outdoor classroom.

Dave Barnett, pupil support at Robert Le Kyng, said: “They came in last year and it is great to have them back. It is all part of the Zurich Challenge to fundraise at work for charities and organisations and then get released into the community.

“It is great for us because they are putting in decking for us as well as sand pits and story telling areas made of logs. We are trying to create outdoor classrooms.

“The best thing is it is not costing us a penny. It is great because for all schools money is tight. Part of what schools are trying to do is get children outside, so we are building an outdoor storytelling area and areas to plant and grow herbs and vegetables, as well as areas to attract birds and butterflies.”

Emily Barlow, 23, markets and customer insight analyst at Zurich, said: “We do this every year as part of the Zurich Easter Challenge. We have been to this school quite a few times.

“We raised £360 for this project, which was matched by the company. We do a quiz, a Wimbledon sweepstake and dress down days. We have a rep who selects charities and each team applies to where they want to go. There are 50 different challenges going on around Swindon this year.”
