NOT content with just passing the SATs, pupils at St Andrews CofE Primary School have exceeded expectations.

The Blunsdon school is among the top 200 in the country with the highest proportion of pupils achieving level 5 - one level above the Government's required standard.

And it has also come third out of all the schools in Swindon with a point score of 285.

Headteacher Jane Wheatley said everyone was proud of their achievements.

"We are very pleased with the results," she said.

"It represents all the hard work of staff, pupils, parents and governors.

"And it was wonderful news that we are amongst the top schools in the country for pupils gaining level 5."

In English, 96 per cent of pupils gained a level four or above, 89 per cent in maths and 100 per cent in science, But Mrs Wheatley, who has been headteacher at the school for six years, said the league tables only provided a snapshot of how the pupils performed on the day of the exam.

"We had a good year group, but they also exceeded their targets," she said.

"We are very proud of them."

And she hopes that next year's results will be just as good.

"We always hope they will be, but we have another good year group and they are showing the potential," she said.
