FAMILY and friends have paid tribute to the woman dubbed Mrs Brunel Rooms after she lost her battle against cancer.

Ginette Roberts, 63, was renowned in Swindon for her bubbly personality, her bright blue eye shadow and her 35-year career at the Brunel Rooms.

Three months ago the mother-of-two was diagnosed with two forms of lymphoma, a type of blood cancer that affects the immune system.

She spent two and a half months at the Great Western Hospital before she died on Wednesday.

An RIP Facebook page set up in her honour had already attracted more than 755 likes yesterday – and scores of comments were left paying tribute to the “loving woman who touched so many lives”.

Her eldest daughter, Wendy Roberts, 43, of St Andrew’s Ridge, said she was devastated by her mum’s death.

“She was my best friend. We did lots of things together,” she said.

“I have wonderful memories of her. I’m in awe of how much respect she has from everyone. The Facebook page shows how well liked she was by everybody.

“She was such a popular person. It makes me so happy to read everybody’s comments. It’s such a comfort.”

Mrs Roberts had worked as a cleaner in the Brunel Rooms since the mid-70s. There she made thousands of friends with colleagues and clubbers alike.

For her work at the venue she was presented with a BEDA nightclub toilet award for the South West, in the 90s.

Mrs Roberts’s hobbies included bingo, watching the Red Arrows and going on tours around the UK.

Danny Mason, who managed the Brunel Rooms and Liquid and Envy between 2002 and 2011, said he was gutted when he heard the news.

“She was really chirpy, she had an infectious chuckle,” said Danny. “She must have been known by most people in Swindon.”

Everybody who met Mrs Roberts loved her, he added.

Friends and family are heading to the Brunel Rooms on Saturday night, all wearing her trademark bright blue eye shadow, to celebrate Mrs Roberts’s life.

“I will be at the Brunel Rooms and would love to meet the people who have written these messages of support,” said Wendy.

Plans for the funeral have not been finalised but Wendy said it will be a perfect send off.

“I’m going to make sure she has the best send off,” she said.

“I want to thank everyone who visited mum in hospital. It made her time there a lot more comfortable.”

Marie Shepherd was one of the many people leaving tributes on Facebook. She said: “RIP Ginette. You were a great person, always had time for anyone no matter what their circumstances. I remember you from working with you at the Brunel rooms 1999-2000.

“We had many a conversation and you never had a bad word to say. Keep the party going up there, thoughts are with all your family.”
