ADVER ROADSHOW: Improving leisure links
4:00pm Sunday 18th August 2013 in News
RESIDENTS and councillors have poured praise onto the new and improved Link Centre, after years of improvement works have left it as a premium leisure centre.
Since the completion of the £700,000 revamp of the ice rink, recognised as a Centre of Excellence for both figure skating and ice hockey, along with the new £1m roof repairs and a £300,000 refurbishment of the 25m swimming pool it has again become a hub of sport and social life in West Swindon.
Meanwhile, The Ridge climbing wall provides 120 different climbs across four walls, stretching up to nine metres high for climbers and abseilers to hone their skills.
Mayor of Swindon, Nick Martin, said: “Work is ongoing on the Link Centre, and it is due to be fully completed by the end of this year. It is the crowning jewel of West Swindon, and a great deal of work has gone into it over the years.
“West Swindon is lucky to have a place like the Link Centre, which provides so much for the community to enjoy.”
The centre is also home to the West Swindon Library, which hosts a range of pop up activites across the year.
John Fry, 65, said: “The Link Centre has got everything you could want for all under one roof.
“My son used to train at the gym in the town centre, but since the one here opened he is there all the time.”
