Swindon GCSE 2013: St Joseph's achieve highest ever A* - C grades
IT WAS a record breaking day at St Joseph’s College as it achieved its highest percentage of A* to C grades ever.
More than 66 per cent got the grade in subjects including English and maths, an increase of 24 per cent.
Amongst the sound of youngsters celebrating, acting principal Ben Slater said he was delighted with the results.
He said: “This is a landmark achievement for our community and I want to say congratulations to all of our students who worked so hard for their success.
“The students should be justly proud of what they have achieved for themselves and the college.
“These results represent increased opportunities for our young people as they consider their post-16 options and we will be welcoming many back as sixth formers.”
Ben believes the unprecedented success will allow people to see the college in its true light and the opportunities pupils are given.
He said: “Our Ofsted inspection in the summer term was very disappointing and as the official report is published this autumn, our hope is that these results will come to represent the confidence that students, parents and parishes can have in us to be a college that brings out the best in our young people, just as we have this summer.”
Many of the pupils who were collecting their results achieved outstanding success far above what they were hoping for.
Kieran O’Daly, 16, managed to get three A*s and five A grades.
He said: “I’m really happy with these results. I thought I had done well but was expecting mainly Bs.
“I did a lot of revision so its really nice to see all the hard work has paid off.”
Jordan Isgin, 16, of Lawn took an impressive 14 exams and managed to bag himself seven A*s and six As.
“I’m pleased with them. I worked really hard throughout the year so its nice to see it pay off,” he said.
“A lot of it was down to my grandparents who were a real motivation for me. I think they’re really pleased with my results.”
