DISGRACED pervert GP Davinder Jeet Bains has been barred from ever practising medicine in the UK again by a medical tribunal.

The 45-year-old was jailed for 12 years in May for a string of sex offences, which included filming his patients in a state of undress with a spy-style pinhole camera hidden in his watch.

A hearing at the Medical Practitioners’ Tribunal Service yesterday decided to strike Bains, of Nythe, off the medical register – with which all GPs must be registered in order to practice medicine in this country. The family doctor carried out his sex attacks on dozens of young female patients, some just 16, where he worked at Tinkers Lane Surgery, in Royal Wootton Bassett, as well as drugging and sexually assaulting a young girl in his care.

Detectives who seized his computer found more than 360 videos he had recorded using his James Bond-style watch and subsequently launched a helpline for those affected.

Yesterday, MPTS panel chairman David Kyle said: “The Panel has concluded that the nature of Dr Bains’ convictions, together with his behaviour which led to them, are so serious as to be fundamentally incompatible with his continuing to be a registered medical practitioner. It has therefore determined that a period of suspension is not sufficient or proportionate.

“For these reasons, the Panel has determined that erasure is the only means of protecting patients and maintaining public confidence in the profession.

“The offences for which Dr Bains was convicted were serious in nature given that his conduct was sexually motivated; it involved a large number of female patients, including two who were under 16 at the time; and it extended over a considerable period of time. His conduct was a gross abuse of trust and of his position as a doctor. In addition to a 12 year custodial sentence, Dr Bains remains on the Sex Offenders Register for an indefinite period.

“Dr Bains has not provided any material which might amount to relevant mitigation. All that can be said in his favour is that there are no previous disciplinary findings against him, which carries little weight when set against the aggravating features of his case. Additionally, Dr Bains has not demonstrated any insight into the seriousness of his actions. “ Rosanna Cox, a specialist abuse lawyer at Irwin Mitchell representing former patients of Dr Bains, said: “This is the next important step in his victims’ battle for justice.

“This man massively abused the position of trust in which he was placed and carried out the most horrendous crimes that continue to have a devastating effect on dozens of women.”
