Funds champ to tee off
1:50pm Tuesday 3rd September 2013 in News
A PROLIFIC fundraiser from Swindon is launching his next venture to raise money for a small alternative cancer treatment charity.
Steve Jordan, 30, of Haydon End, set himself the challenge in 2011 of raising £10,000 for Prospect Hospice over the course of a year, and has now turned his attentions to smaller charities which could use his help.
Setting up a charity golf day for Yes for Life, which offers support to people with cancer who want to take a proactive approach to their treatment, Steve hopes to raise more than £1,000.
“This project is a joint venture between myself and the club captain to raise as much money as possible for our chosen charities,” said Steve. “My half of the money raised will go to Yes to Life, who we were fundraising for last year as well. They help cancer patients by offering them alternative treatments.
“The day is going to consist of a standard golf day, with tea, coffee and bacon rolls in the morning, then a round of golf.
“We also have Paul Barrington coming down for the day, who is the former world trick shot champion, so we are hoping that will encourage people to come down on the day.
“We are looking to raise in the region of £2,500, but that will only happen if we fill the capacity of 20 teams. We have got about nine teams signed up already. The day will cost around £220 per team, which is already cheaper than most golf days, and works out at £55 per person. With refreshments, the trick shot sessions and awards presentations, I believe it is a competitive price.
“Yes to Life are close to my heart for personal reasons because they helped out a friend of mine.
“While they are not a big charity they do a sensational job for the people they help. They offer a range of options rather than chemotherapy for the treatment of cancer, which a lot of people will often shy away from.”
The event will take place on Friday, November 8 at the Wrag Barn golf course, on Shrivenham Road in Highworth. For more details and to book a place contact Steve on email@example.com or 07733 757013.
